SOTD: Maria Taylor - 'Song Beneath the Song' from 11:11 (2005)
Maria Taylor has a seductive voice. When I heard 'Song Beneath the Song' for the first time I was mesmerized by the slightly spoken-word vocals and the somewhat soft, breathy voice of hers. Add to that a catchy tune with swirly keyboards and guitars lower in the mix and I was hooked. By the time the tune reached the chorus I was reaching for the CD case to reread every bit of information I could find.
'Song Beneath the Song' has been featured on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack. Just the other day I heard the track while browsing in Kohl's department store. It was a bit strange considering the environment, but I'm glad for her to get the airplay. Too bad few other shoppers probably had any idea who did the song.
11:11 on hip Saddle Creek Records label is the first solo album by the ex-Azure Ray member. Taylor has subsequently released a few other albums, including LadyLuck which hit stores earlier this year. Take a listen and see what kind of spell she casts upon you.
